The Copperleaf 2017 AIPM Summit brought together a record number of attendees from utilities around the globe to discuss Asset Investment Planning & Management (AIPM) and the future direction of Copperleaf’s C55 solution. Hosted in Vancouver, BC from May 9-11, the event continues to grow every year, highlighting the growing interest in this topic, and the value of sharing knowledge and networking across organizations.
Copperleaf, together with our clients and partners, led educational sessions and roundtable discussions on a variety of subjects, including “Capitalizing on the New Copperleaf Value Framework”, “Cost Capture and Cost Estimation”, “C55 Product Strategy & Roadmap”, and more.
A number of new activities were added to the agenda this year. We invited our partner CH2M to deliver an Asset Management Training and IAM Certificate Course. Thirteen participants from members of the community participated in this training and were rewarded with their IAM Asset Management certificate.
We also introduced a half day of pre-conference training, including an introductory “Newbie” session for first-timers to the event, “C55 Module Overview” sessions for those interested in learning more about specific C55 software modules, and finally, a “Meet the Development Team” session which turned out to be a big hit, generating animated discussions and great feedback from both customers and software developers.
Another first this year, was the establishment of the Copperleaf Community Advisory Board. This is a group of representatives from member companies that will work together with Copperleaf to drive the agenda of future summits and foster ways for community members to interact, share best practices, and learn from each other.
Faye Cooper, Senior Manager, Commercial Services, Capital Investments, Business Planning, and JV for ENMAX Corp. and Co-Chair of the Copperleaf Community Advisory Board, explains:
“The goal of the Copperleaf Community Advisory Board is to facilitate collaboration with our peers, not just in our own industry, but across all industries utilizing Copperleaf C55. We all have common challenges when it comes to capital planning and asset management, and we can all benefit by sharing knowledge and working together on an ongoing basis.”
The best part of the event for us at Copperleaf is that we get to spend two days with our clients and hear what they have to say. We truly listen to their feedback and ideas and try to figure out how to take that information and incorporate it into our solution and services to make them even better! Having this time with them is invaluable and we look forward to the Summit each year!
According to long-time attendee Tracy Martin, Supervisor, Capital Budget at Alectra Utilities:
“The AIPM Summit is integral to enhancing our business practices surrounding the tool used for managing our capital assets. Learning about how others are using the C55 platform, and being able to discuss specific details with individuals working through similar issues, provides us with a unique opportunity to collaborate, refine our processes, and develop more efficiencies surrounding the capital budget.”
Gordon Ashby, Resource Economic Planner, Generating Assets at Bonneville Power Administration, added:
“Some of the most valuable time I spend away from the office each year is in the discussions that occur at the Copperleaf AIPM Summit with C55 users and members of the Copperleaf team. Whether it is sharing best practices, brainstorming new ways to use the tools available in C55 or discussing future functionality, the conference is a great opportunity for new users and veterans alike. The ability for users to get a sneak peek at future releases and provide input is highly valuable and ensures C55 continues to adapt to our needs. Finally, it can be both reassuring and thought-provoking to discuss the challenges of implementing an asset management program with other companies that have faced similar challenges or are just embarking on their Asset Management journey.”
Next year’s conference promises to be even bigger, and will be held from May 8-10, 2018 in Vancouver. Stay tuned for more info. In the meantime, to learn more about the Copperleaf Community and the AIPM Summit, view the video.
