The Copperleaf Europe team recently attended the IET Asset Management Conference in London. Investment decision making was discussed in a number of sessions with an emphasis on making informed decisions in a changing world. Fortunately, Copperleaf has lots of experience in this area and had the opportunity to present two topics to kick things off on the first day of the conference:
- Ibrahim Tamimi and I reviewed the results of a research project we carried out with the University of Southampton on the benefits of asset investment optimisation versus traditional prioritisation methods. The study shows that optimisation yields 7% to 20% higher portfolio value for the same monetary constraints compared to prioritisation. Check out this article to learn more.
- Next, Chris Royce, Head of Strategic Investment Management from our client Anglian Water, and James Burberry, our European Director of Customer Experience, discussed the drivers for, and benefits of, next generation investment planning and management.
For the last two years, the IAM has been working on quantifying the benefits of asset management. At this conference a most interesting study connecting the financial performance of companies to their asset management maturity level was presented. It showed that companies that are well engaged in the asset management journey typically achieve 10% to 15% better return on equity, and 11% to 19% better EBIT margin.
This year’s IAM annual lecture featured Javier Bajer, a cognitive psychologist and specialist in behavioural change and culture. He engaged the audience and gave us a number of change management tools to try out on our next transformation project (and potentially at home too)!
All in all, it was another terrific IET event and left everyone excited about the future of our industry!
