Congratulations to Ibrahim Tamimi, who won the University of Southampton Maths/Operational Research Impact Prize for his research project sponsored by Copperleaf! Ibrahim accepted the award from Professor Sally Brailsford at a University of Southampton ceremony in May.
Ibrahim used advanced mathematical techniques to quantify the benefits of investment portfolio optimisation compared to traditional ranked-list prioritisation. The analysis and results were presented at the joint Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) & Institute of Asset Management (IAM) conference in London last November.
Dr Patrick Beullens, Associate Professor at the University of Southampton and academic supervisor for Ibrahim’s project, remarked:
“It was a real pleasure to supervise this project. Copperleaf delivered a well-devised plan which included Ibrahim visiting their offices in Canada and London. It was a great opportunity for Ibrahim to learn about an exciting real-life application of sophisticated Operational Research techniques, and to hone his skills in computer programming and experimental analysis.”
Stefan Sadnicki, Managing Director, Europe for Copperleaf, said:
“Ibrahim’s research proves that asset intensive organisation using Copperleaf’s optimisation software C55 can realise 7%-20% greater portfolio value compared to traditional Excel-based investment prioritisation processes.”
