Southern California Edison Goes Live with Copperleaf for Long-Term Planning and Project Portfolio Management

Vancouver, BC, July 9, 2019—The Copperleaf® Decision Analytics Solution is now live at Southern California Edison (SCE), one of the largest electric utilities in the United States. Copperleaf was selected to support SCE’s long-term investment planning and Project Portfolio Management (PPM) needs.

SCE delivers power to fifteen million people through a network of 12,635 miles of transmission lines and 91,375 miles of distribution lines. The company’s decision to purchase the Copperleaf solution is part of a major initiative within SCE to modernize and safeguard the electric distribution grid and support California’s transition to a clean and sustainable future.

In 2016, SCE began an in-depth search for a best-in-class solution to help the company align investment decisions with its long-term strategic goals. The company also recognized an opportunity to improve the efficiency of its planning processes, by centralizing data and consolidating planning tasks that were being performed in a variety of disparate tools.

The Copperleaf solution is now live, providing SCE with a common platform to develop, approve and manage investments through their full lifecyle—from initiation, planning, scheduling, execution, through to closure (IPSEC). It will enable greater consistency across Class 5 cost estimates, streamline the investment creation and approval process, and provide increased visibility into project work to support portfolio-level planning decisions.

“We are thrilled a leading utility like SCE is now using Copperleaf to support both its long-term system planning and portfolio-level investment decisions,” stated Copperleaf CEO Judi Hess. “Our close partnership will allow us to innovate together and support SCE’s transformation into a utility of the future.”
