Copperleaf’s RAD Initiative Builds Homes for Habitat for Humanity

The first Random Acts of Delight (RAD) event for 2019 was in support of Habitat for Humanity, whose mission is to mobilize volunteers and community partners in building affordable housing and promoting home ownership as a means to break the cycle of poverty. Habitat for Humanity believes that access to safe, decent and affordable housing is a basic human right that should be available to all, and we couldn’t agree more.

In fact, we had so much interest from our employees that we had to break participation up into two separate volunteer days! Copperleafers journeyed out to Richmond to help with the current build project which will provide homes for twelve Habitat families.

The first group of Copperleaf RAD volunteers joined the Habitat for Humanity project on March 12th. The day started out with rain, but the clouds quickly turned into blue skies. Our group got to enjoy the sunshine while preparing the carport foundation for four of the new homes. One of the regular volunteers on site observed:

What was accomplished in one day by the Copperleaf team would normally have taken us several days!

The second group of volunteers joined the build on March 27th. For a March in Vancouver, we lucked out again with some amazing sunny weather. The group received power tools and equipment training and worked on finishing the flooring for the four homes. Andree Nash, Habitat for Humanity Greater Vancouver Volunteer Manager, commented:

With your help, Habitat for Humanity Greater Vancouver is able to provide affordable homes in the upcoming years to 12 families in Richmond . . . all thanks to the support of hard working volunteers like yourselves. Together, we are ensuring that affordable home ownership remains within reach of deserving families.

Our RAD program is off to a great start this year, and we can’t wait to get started on our summer activities! The Copperleaf RAD initiative is a key part of our culture and provides a means to give back to the community. Learn more about the Copperleaf culture here.
