Copperleaf Welcomes the International Water Association to Vancouver | Copperleaf

The International Water Association (IWA) recently held two specialty conferences back-to-back in Vancouver: the IWA’s 2019 PI conference covered performance indicators and benchmarking for water utilities, and the IWA’s 2019 LESAM (Leading Edge Strategic Asset Management) conference examined the challenges and new trends in strategic asset management for the water sector. These biennial conferences attract leading public and private water utilities, consulting firms, and academic and research institutions from all over the world, creating a wonderful forum to share and learn about the latest developments in these contiguous areas. Copperleaf is proud to sponsor these two events which covered topics highly relevant to our customers.

Performance indicators are not only used for regulatory reporting and internal or national benchmarking, they are increasingly used as the foundation of the value frameworks used by water utilities to drive decision making in asset management.

In our experience, water utilities are subject to some of the most complex regulatory and stakeholder pressures, making robust and comprehensive value frameworks and asset investment planning systems a must. This became very apparent during the two IWA conferences where utilities from every continent discussed their challenges and presented their solutions—including increased adherence to the ISO 55001 asset management standard, and adoption of systems like Copperleaf C55 that offer advanced project valuation and portfolio optimization techniques.
